  • U.S. House committee has proposed $250 million in defense aid to Ukraine for the next year as part of a broader U.S. policy of confronting Russia’s increasing aggression. At least $50 million of that amount to be spent on lethal weapons.
  • Kyivans offer to host European football fans for free amid a shortage of affordable accommodation in the city less than three weeks before the finals of the UEFA men’s and women’s Champions Leagues. Kyiv expects up to 100,000 foreign visitors but it appears to be not ready to provide lodging to them: many hotels are fully booked, and prices on available hotel rooms and rental flats skyrocketed up to 100 times.
  • Ukrainian authorities investigate an apparent mass poisoning in a school in Cherkasy that sent 50 students and two teachers to the hospital. 
  • UAE police released Ukraine’s ex-minister of transport Mykola Rudkovsky who had been detained since early April on suspicion of forgery.
  • Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation for the victims of the World War II. The anniversary of the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany is commemorated on May 8 separately from the Soviet celebration of the Victory Day on May 9.
