The presidential election is only eight months away in Ukraine, and so far, Ukrainians are displeased with the “Same Old Faces” they are seeing as candidates. Many of the contenders are part of the generation of politicians sometimes called “Kuchma’s children,” after ex-President Leonid Kuchma, whose corrupt and authoritarian rule from 1994-2005 gave rise to the oligarchy that has stifled the nation’s political, social and economic development. The polls show that Ukrainians want new faces. Will they find any?
