Finance Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Danyliuk, will meet with Finance and Economy Minister of Italy Pier Carlo Padoan and General-Commander of Italian Financial Guards (Guardia di Finanza) Giorgio Toschi and learn about the operation of the Financial Guards during his working visit to Rome.

The visit will be held in connection with Ukraine starting its work to create the Financial Investigation Service (FIS) – similar to the Italian agency investigating economic crimes against the state, the ministry’s press service reported.

“During the visit, Oleksandr Danyliuk will get acquainted with the aspects of the work of the Italian Financial Guards, a law enforcement body coordinated by the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Italy, which is responsible for combating economic crimes and smuggling,” the report said.

During the visit on July 24-25, the minister will also meet with the directors of the Italian tax and customs agencies.

As reported, the Ukrainian government approved the bill on the Financial Investigations Service. It is planned to establish a Financial Investigation Service (FIS) instead of the tax police and economic units of the Interior Ministry and the Security Service of Ukraine. The issue of the jurisdiction of the FIS has not yet been resolved. Three options have been considered, whom the FIS will be subordinated to. The Finance Ministry proposed the service should be subordinated to it. The Interior Ministry also wants to control the service. The third option is to give control over the FIS to the Cabinet.
