You're reading: Danylyuk says situation with PrivatBank main reason for his resignation

Former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksandr Danyliuk wrote a letter of resignation due to events with PrivatBank, in which he sees serious threats to the country’s financial stability.

“There were several factors, but the last one was the events related to PrivatBank,” Danyliuk said in an interview with BBC Ukraine.

He explained that over the course of several weeks, events had occurred that became a very negative signal for him: searches in PrivatBank, setting fire to Valeriya Gontareva’s car and home, and “certain progress in courts.”

“And I, as a person who put my reputation at stake during the election campaign when stated that I would do everything to keep Ihor Kolomoisky’s influence in Ukraine limited, of course, I couldn’t help but respond to this. It was not just the issue of reputation, it was a matter of values. And therefore, it was the last straw,” he said.

Danyliuk added that certain people who represented Kolomoisky’s interests during nationalization tried to shape the president’s position on PrivatBank during the campaign of Volodymyr Zelensky.

“In the professional world where everything is based on professional standards, if a person is a lawyer, then you should avoid a conflict of interest. And if you can’t do this, you must resign,” Danyliuk said, adding that the matter concerns Head of the President’s Office Andriy Bohdan.
