You're reading: Defense lawyers file appeal against court’s ruling on pretrial restriction for Dobkin

Lawyers of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada member (Opposition Bloc faction) Mykhailo Dobkin have filed an appeal against the decision of the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv to take him into custody with an alternative to bail.

“We have filed and registered an appeal with the Appeal Court. And we will demand to cancel the claims of the prosecutor’s office in terms of presenting me with such preventive measure as arrest or an alternative (bail). We will demand a revocation, because I’m not fleeing the country,” Dobkin said on the air of the 112.Ukraine TV channel on July 25 evening.

As reported, the Prosecutor General’s Office handed Dobkin a suspicion of fraud and abuse of authority.

On July 13, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine backed three requests submitted by Prosecutor General Lutsenko about giving its consent to the prosecution, detention and arrest of Opposition Bloc MP Mykhailo Dobkin.

On July 15, the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv decided to take MP from the Opposition Block faction Mykhailo Dobkin into custody for 60 days with the alternative of a bail in the amount of Hr 50 million.

On July 19 it became known that his fellow faction member Vadym Novinsky contributed Hr 30 million to pay part of his Hr 50 million bail, the remaining Hr 20 million was provided by co-chairman of the Opposition Bloc party Borys Kolesnikov.
