You're reading: Defense Minister Poltorak: 6 female soldiers killed in Donbas in 5 years

More than 7,000 female military personnel have participated in the war in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, six of them were killed in action, Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak has said.

“Today, almost 56,000 women work or serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, of whom 26,000 are military personnel, 3,500 are officers,” Poltorak said during an official event on March 7 on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The minister noted that more than 7,000 female personnel had become involved in the fighting in Donbas.

“Unfortunately, six female soldiers have given their lives in the five years of the war, defending Ukraine,” he added.
