The number of non-combat losses among servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2017 has decreased more than five times compared to previous years, the Defense Ministry’s press service said on Saturday.

“The main causes of irreversible non-combat losses are deaths from diseases, deaths in road accidents, violations of security measures and rules for handling of weapons,” the report says.

The Defense Ministry has assured that thorough investigations are conducted into each death of servicemen to determine the causes and circumstances of death, and measures are also taken to prevent such cases from happening again.

Earlier, Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoliy Matios told ZIK TV channel that since 2014 some 10,103 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and injured not as the result of hostilities.
