Over 100,000 military volunteers have been accepted to service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of Russian aggression, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.

“Today, Ukraine marks Ukrainian Volunteer Day for the first time. Since the beginning of Russian aggression and hostilities in the east of Ukraine, over 100,000 patriots have joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The lion’s share of them is the Ukrainian army’s individual ready reserve,” Defense Ministry spokesman Dmytro Hutsuliak said at a briefing in Kyiv on March 14.

Almost 70,000 Ukrainian citizens voluntarily signed contracts to serve in the Ukrainian army in 2016, he said. Of them, there are over 7,500 officers.
“Over 6,700 servicemen have already signed a contract to join the Ukrainian army this year,” he said.
