Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova has discussed with her Russian counterpart Tatyana Moskalkova issues relating to the observance of the rights of Ukrainian political prisoners and the possibility of visting them in Moscow on Monday, January 14, 2018.

Denisova said on Facebook that she talked with Moskalkova by phone on January 11.

“We discussed the organization of our possible meeting with her on Monday in Moscow. I expressed my full readiness to meet with her, because we have a lot of topics for discussion,” she said, adding that she asked Moskalkova why there have been no replies to last year’s appeals about the observance of the rights of Ukrainian citizens Oleh Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko, Volodymyr Dudka, Stanislav Klykh, Volodymyr Balukh, Pavlo Hryb, Edem Bekirov, Kazim Ametov , Asan Chapukh and others.

“I sent her information along with copies of all the letters I had sent. I will wait for answers,” Denisova said.

The ombudsman also reminded her Russian counterpart about the need to provide Bekirov with permanent medical care because of his deteriorating health.

“I asked the Russian ombudswoman to pay attention to this and she promised that she would find out all the circumstances about his state of health. I hope that he will be provided with qualified assistance,” Denisova said.

As earlier reported, Denisova announced her intentions to visit Moscow next week and hold talks with Moskalkova and the Russia’s FSB Federal Security Service chief Alexander Bortnikov regarding 24 Ukrainian prisoners of war seamen being held in Moscow detention centers.
