Ukrainian ombudswoman Liudmyla Denisova and her Russian counterpart Tatiana Moskalkova have agreed that Russia will consider granting access by independent doctors to the detained Ukrainians awaiting trial or serving prison sentences in Russia.

“We have agreed that Ms. Moskalkova will discuss the possibility of providing independent doctors to examine our citizens,” Denisova said after meeting with Moskalkova in Kyiv on Monday.

The two discussed the health situation of the Ukrainians Edem Bekirov, Pavlo Hryb, Volodymyr Balukh, Yevhen Panov, Volodymyr Dudka, and Stanyslav Klykh, the Ukrainian ombudswoman said.

“Opinions vary as to whether surgical intervention is necessary,” Denisova said.

“As for our sailors at Lefortovo prison, Soroka, Eider and Artiomenko, who all need additional medical support, will be provided with it,” she said.

The health condition of Yuriy Budzylo, who suffers from diabetes, will be monitored, Denisova said.

Moskalkova, in turn, said that they were talking about a possibility of inviting independent doctors in case of disagreement among doctors and families disputing medical conclusions.
