Ukrainian political prisoner Oleksiy Stohniy, whom Russia-occupation authorities illegally detained in November 2016 and subsequently condemned, is now in Kyiv, Ukrainian Ombudsperson Liudmyla Denisova has said.

“All these years, he was kept in unbearable conditions by Russia-occupation authorities. This damaged his health. I will urgently take appropriate measures to conduct a highly qualified medical examination and provide him with the necessary medical care,” Denisova said.

She stressed that she is carrying out the necessary work for the speedy return of 115 Ukrainian citizens who are still illegally detained in the Russian Federation.

“I urge representatives of international human rights organizations and the diplomatic corps to use all levers of influence to ensure compliance with the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens of Ukraine, who are still prisoners of the Kremlin,” Denisova said.

As reported, Stohniy was sentenced to three years and six months in prison on July 17, 2017, by the so-called “Kyiv District Court of Simferopol.”

He was involved in the so-called “case of Ukrainian saboteurs.”
