Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada human rights commissioner Liudmyla Denisova has said that the Moscow City Court has not yet decided whether to allow her to visit Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko, who faces espionage charges in Russia.

“Since 9 a.m. today, I have been calling the Moscow City Court, which is considering the Ukrainian embassy’s request about my visit to Roman Sushchenko. But their only answer is that a decision on my matter has not been made yet. Only secretaries are answering the phone. All officials are taking part in court sessions at the moment,” Denisova wrote on her Facebook page.

The Ukrainian embassy to Russia sent an urgent letter to the court’s Chairperson Olga Yegorova, asking her to speed up the decision-making process on this issue, she said.

The Moscow City Court had earlier allowed Ukrainian embassy counselor Albert Chernyuk, Denisova and also two employees of her office to visit Sushchenko in the remand center. However, the court subsequently withdrew its permission, saying that “the applicants stated their positions incorrectly.”

The Ukrainian embassy to Russia then once again asked the Moscow City Court to permit a visit to Sushchenko. The court promised to give its answer early on June 21. But no decision has been made yet.
