Ukrainian political prisoner Inver Bekirov, who is being held in a correctional colony in Russia (Salavat, Bashkortstan), suffered a micro stroke, Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova said.

“Inver himself turned to the medical unit of the colony for help, where he subsequently lost consciousness. The doctors diagnosed a micro stroke. Despite the critical state of health of the prisoner, the management of the correctional facility plans to transfer the 58-year-old man to a punishment cell due to a far-fetched violation of internal regulations. Stay in punishment cell may end badly for Inver Bekirov,” Denisova said on Telegram on Tuesday.

According to her, the actions of the administration of the correctional colony violate Article 22 of the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners. “I appeal to Human Rights Ombudsman in the Russian Federation, Tatyana Moskalkova, with a demand to immediately restore the violated rights of Inver Bekirov, in particular, to provide him with the necessary medical care, including hospitalization in a hospital, where a qualified examination and further treatment can be carried out,” the Ukrainian human rights commissioner said.

Denisova said that Bekirov has been in custody for the sixth year on groundless charges.
