Angela Merkel’s brief visit to Warsaw on Feb. 7 marked the German leader’s first trip to Poland since a populist government was elected there in 2015. Relations between Berlin and Warsaw remain largely positive, however, with trade between the two countries booming.
Germany and Poland are also on the same page when it comes to Russia – aside from the Baltic Sea pipeline, which Poland strongly opposes. The Nord Stream 2 project, a deal between Germany and Russia, is still in the planning stages.
