The director of the Samson private security firm was injured in an explosion at the intersection of Troyitska Street and Oleksandrivsky Prospekt (Avenue) in the center of Odesa in the early hours of June 25, the local news outlet Dumskaya has reported.

“There was an explosion at the intersection of Troyitska Street and Oleksandrivsky Prospekt at about 11:40 p.m. today [June 24],” the publication said in the early hours of June 25.

According to eyewitnesses, an explosive device was reportedly planted underneath a car with an Irish number plate.

The Ukrainian police and the National Guard are currently on the scene. They have cordoned off the site of the explosion.

“The director of Samson, Andriy Babenko, arrived home with his family and bodyguards in a black Mercedes car. The car was parked across the road. An explosive device was activated when the director of Samson entered the house with his wife and children accompanied by the guards. According to early reports, the director of the private security firm was injured in the legs,” the media outlet said.

The victim was hospitalized.
