The Donetsk region’s court of appeals has sentenced two residents of the Sloviansk district to five years in jail for posts on the Vkontakte social networking site, the press service for the Donetsk region’s prosecutors said.

“In late February 2014, two men, aged 24 and 25, created several groups on the Vkontakte social networking site. Pursuing the goal of altering the territory (…) of Ukraine and providing informational support to the DPR and LPR terrorist organizations, they posted anti-Ukrainian materials in the groups. The men’s criminal activities were ended by SBU officials in April 2015. They were arrested at the request of prosecutors,” the report said.

Prosecutors said the men had not admitted their guilt in court, but state prosecutors had fully proven their guilt. A first-instance court sentenced the men to five years in jail, but an appeal was filed.

An appeals court upheld the sentence, finding the two residents of the Sloviansk region guilty of encroachments on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.
