Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany Peter Altmaier have confirmed the positions of the European Union on gas transit across Ukraine, the German ministry said in a press release issued on June 17.

“Gas transit through Ukraine must continue and be ensured after 2019,” Altmaier said.

“I am very pleased that Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič is committed to continuing the trilateral talks between the EU Commission, Ukraine and Russia,” the minister said.

The meeting of Altmaier and Šefčovič was held before a first visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Berlin.
