The updated national construction standards with a requirement to design elevators in new residential buildings with four and more floors and a recommendation to install them in new houses with three floors will take effect on Dec. 1, the press service of Deputy Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Economy Minister Lev Partskhaladze has reported.

“We recommend arranging elevators in houses with three floors, and in houses with four floors – do it on a mandatory basis. New standards will begin to be effective from Dec. 1, that is, starting this winter all new houses should be built in accordance with these standards,” the press service said, citing Partskhaladze.

According to the updated requirement, it is recommended to install passenger elevators in houses with three floors and more (or with a height between the main and upper residential floors of more than 8 meters). At the same time, in houses with four floors and more (or a conditional height of 12 meters or more), the installation of an elevator is required.

The design of elevators, machine rooms and block rooms, stairs must meet the relevant current building standards, and the number of elevators, their carrying capacity and speed must be calculated according to the rules depending on the number of floors of the building and the number of inhabitants.

The new national construction standard V.2.2-15: 2019 “Residential Buildings. Key Provisions” was developed by the specialists of PJSC Ukrainian Zonal Research and Project Institute for Civil Engineering to replace the outdated 2005 requirement.
