You're reading: Engineer explosive item detonates injuring 8 soldiers during army competition in Ukraine

Eight servicemen were injured as a result of an explosion during a competition on Combined Range 239 in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region.

“On July 20, when the best tank crew competition was held on Combined Range 239, eight servicemen sustained injuries (…) It was tentatively established that the servicemen sustained injuries of various severity as a result of an engineer explosive item going off,” the East operative command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said on its Facebook page.

Four servicemen have been sent to the Dnipro Military Hospital, another three to the Mechnykov Dnipropetrovsk Regional Clinical Hospital, and one soldier is in the 68th Military Hospital in Cherkaske, the operative command said.

An internal investigation has been opened to find out causes and circumstances of the incident, it said.
