You're reading: EU disburses 500 million euros tranche of macrofinancial assistance to Ukraine

The European Commission has disbursed a first tranche of the fourth macrofinancial assistance of the EU to Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros, the Finance Ministry of Ukraine reported on its website on Dec. 11.

The ministry said that the funds are provided as a loan for the period until April 2033 at 1.25 percent per annum.

The funds were sent to the national budget, in particular, to introduce structural reforms. The list of measures, which Ukraine is to take to receive the EU macrofinancial assistance, is the fight against corruption, enhancement of the predictability of the tax environment and strengthening the governance of state-owned enterprises, energy sector reform, social policy and public finance governance reform.

Finance Minister Oksana Markarova said that the Ministry of Finance is grateful to the EU for “effective support for Ukraine”.

“Together, the government, the Verkhovna Rada and the president will continue implementing a reform program so that Ukraine is a good neighbor and partner of the European Union, and most importantly for the sake of economic development and welfare of every Ukrainian,” she said.
