The European Union (EU) strongly condemns the attack on the property of Dnipro’s anti-corruption activist and expert of Civic Control Platform Hennadiy Kirichenko.

“We strongly condemn the attack on the property of Dnipro’s anti-corruption activist and expert of Civic Control Platform Mr Kirichenko, which appears to be related to his professional activities… We also hope that Ukrainian authorities will take necessary steps to prevent any future attacks against civil society representatives who carry on with the important mission of fighting corruption and promoting reforms at the regional level,” the EU Delegation to Ukraine wrote on its Facebook page on December 19.

The EU expects law enforcement authorities to ensure that perpetrators of attack are identified, prosecuted and sanctioned in accordance with Ukrainian laws.

Earlier on the Civic Control Platform’s Facebook page it was said that a car of Kirichenko was set on fire by unknown people. The platform believes that the reason for the incident is “an active protest from Kirichenko against the construction of a car park for cars, heavy vehicles and minibuses near the apartment building where the activist lives.”
