European Union Special Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore accepted the invitation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba to visit the administrative border with the Autonomous Republic of Crimea during his next visit to Ukraine to see firsthand the consequences of the Russian occupation,” the press service of the Ukrainian foreign policy department said.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Gilmore is visiting Ukraine for the first time. During a meeting with Kuleba, he congratulated the head of Ukrainian diplomacy on the successful launch of the Crimea platform. The interlocutors agreed to intensify interaction in order to implement its tasks, primarily in the human rights and sanctions areas, and also discussed the human rights situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

In turn, Kuleba called on the EU Special Representative to make efforts to release the Ukrainians who are illegally held by Russia behind bars, in particular, First Deputy Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Nariman Dzhelyal, a freelance journalist of Radio Liberty Vladyslav Yesypenko and others.
