Most museums deliberately create a curious and intriguing atmosphere to arouse our senses and emotions. However, other museums do not need to invent anything. The horror seeps through every crack in the walls, through each floor tile. Such horror and terror do not belong to a distant past, but to the early years of the 20th century.

A criminalists investigates the remains of people found during excavations near Lviv on Nov. 23, 2009 and prepares them for the burial. The remains of some 600 people, who were killed by soldiers of Stalin's secret police NKVD or died of starvation trying to escape from the western regions of the country to the east of the country in 1945-1946, were found at the Pidzamche station near the western Ukrainian city of Lviv.
