The bill of indictment against two former officers of the Berkut special police unit in Kyiv who are suspected of the illegitimate detention of people who came to attend the EuroMaidan rally on Kyiv’s Independence Square on Nov. 30, 2013, has been sent to the Shevchenkivsky district court in Kyiv.

Following the results of a pretrial investigation into the facts of illegitimate detention of participants in the peaceful rally that took place on Kyiv’s Independence Square on Nov. 30, 2013 and of drawing up and issuing deliberately misleading documents about their detention, the investigators sent the bill of indictment against the former officers of the Berkut special police unit in Kyiv (two current police officers) to the Shevchenkivsky district court in Kyiv, the special investigations department of the Prosecutor General’s Office wrote in a post on Facebook on Nov. 14.

The two officers are suspected of committing crimes that are stipulated in Part 1 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 365 (abuse of authority or official misconduct,) Part 1 of Article 28 and Article 340 (illegal hampering of the organization or holding of events or rallies,) and Part 1 of Article 366 (forgery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
