Kyiv Local Prosecutor’s Office No. 10 has approved a notice of suspicion for a former employee of the Ukrainian Embassy in the Republic of South Africa due to the misappropriation of Hr 1.5 million in state budget funds intended for the work of this diplomatic mission.

“The financial audit showed that being in a long-term business trip in 2016-2017, a specialist of the first category of the Ukrainian Embassy in South Africa, without any documentary justification, took possession of Hr 1.5 million in state funds intended for the functioning of this diplomatic institution,” the press service of the Kyiv prosecutor’s office reported on August 13.

The prosecutor’s office said that as a result of the investigation, the former official was informed of a suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (large-scale misappropriation of property by abuse of office).

In addition, the local prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit to recover the entire amount of damage from the suspect.

Spokesperson for Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office Nadia Maksymets, when asked about the selection of a measure of restraint for the suspect, wrote in a post on her Facebook page: “House arrest.”
