Mykhailo Ferents, a Ukrainian convicted in Belarus, plans to appeal the court’s decision, Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova said.

“Today the court of Zavodsky district of Minsk sentenced the citizen of Ukraine Mykhailo Ferents to three years of imprisonment for alleged ‘participation in actions grossly violating public order and intentional damage to property.” Mykhailo Ferents does not admit his guilt and plans to file an appeal through a lawyer,” Denisova said on her Facebook page on September 20.

“I appeal to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus Ihor Kizim with a request to urgently visit our compatriot and participate in all court hearings to ensure respect for his procedural rights,” the ombudsperson said.
