Head of Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, Filaret, stressed that the unification of the Orthodox churches into a single local church will be held peacefully and will be aimed at unity.

“Moscow wants confrontation. We, Ukrainians, do not want it, because we don’t want to give a reason for external interference in our Ukrainian affairs. We’ve had it for far too long and can still tolerate some time. And the unification will take place exclusively on a voluntary basis without any violence,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Oct. 11.
