As reported, on December 18, 2016 the government at the suggestion of the NBU and PrivatBank shareholders, the largest of whom at that time were Ihor Kolomoisky and Hennadiy Boholiubov, decided to nationalize this largest financial institution in the Ukrainian market. The state received 100% of its capital, and PrivatBank was capitalized for Hr 116.8 billion.

Head of the National Bank Valeriya Gontareva on April 10, 2017 said the post-audit of PrivatBank after its nationalization revealed additional problems: not 97% but 100% of the bank’s corporate loan portfolio was given to related persons, and then reported the financial institution following post-audit results would require additional capitalization for at least Hr 30 billion.
