CHISINAU – The first death caused by the new coronavirus has been recorded in Moldova, Health, Labor, and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu said on March 18 morning.

“The first person in Moldova died of the coronavirus infection last night. This was a 61-year-old woman,” Dumbraveanu said.

The woman tested positive for coronavirus on March 8. She also suffered from other chronic diseases, including diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure, Dumbraveanu said.

Two other coronavirus patients have recovered, and one of them has been discharged from hospital, she said.

A total of 30 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Moldova since March 7. Sixteen of the coronavirus patients had earlier returned from Italy or France.
