You're reading: Former Black Sea Fleet staff officer detained in Sevastopol for spying for Ukraine

MOSCOW- Leonid Parkhomenko, ex-officer of the Black Sea Fleet was detained in Sevastopol for gathering secret information about the fleet’s activity by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s intelligence department order, the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has reported.

“The Federal Security Service detained a former officer of the Black Sea Fleet, Capitan Leonid Parkhomenko, in Sevastopol on Nov.22. He was fulfilling assignments given by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry supplying the foreign security service with state secret information about operations of the Black Sea Fleet,” the FSB public relations center told Interfax on Nov. 24.

The FSB has launched a criminal case on high treason.
Later, the Russian security service released a video showing the moment of Parkhomenko’s detention without any further comment.
