Ukraine is in the position of partially-free states in the area of freedom of access and use of the Internet, according to data from the Freedom House report “Freedom on the Net 2018.”
According to the report, which was presented in Kyiv on Dec. 4, the authors gave 45 out of 100 points (the fewer points, the freer the country is considered).
We know that the use of the VKontakte and Odnoklassniki platforms, which were very popular, was limited … Ukraine is among those countries where over the past five years the situation has deteriorated the most with the use of the Internet, said Adrian Shahbaz, Freedom House technology research director, at the press conference.
The report also draws attention to the fact that law enforcement officers conducted searches in the offices of the pro-Russian editions of Strana.ua and Vesti ezines.
The report also cites data from territories not controlled by the government, in particular: “the separatist authorities, supported by Russia in Luhansk, sentenced the blogger to 14 years in prison.”
Estonia is the first in the ranking (6 out of 100) and Iceland (6 out of 100). They are followed by Canada (15 out of 100), Germany (19 out of 100), Australia (21 out of 100) and the United States (22 out of 100). China was the last in the ranking (88 out of 100).
The report, which ranked 65 countries, was conducted from June 1, 2017, to May 31, 2018.
