MOSCOW – Gazprom has again confirmed that it intends to contest the decision by Ukraine’s Antimonopoly Committee on a multi-billion fine the committee set for the company, confirmed in a number of other initiatives in Ukrainian courts.

The Antimonopoly Committee decided in January 2016 to fine Russian gas giant Hr 85 billion for abuse of its monopoly position on the Ukrainian market for transit shipments of natural gas. This decision has been upheld several times by Ukrainian courts. In the latest ruling, on Feb. 22 Kyiv’s business court of appeals upheld the ruling of a lower court confirming the order to collect the fine from Gazprom, which has already grown to Hr 172 billion (about $6.37 billion) with fines for nonpayment.
