You're reading: Georgia confirms request for Ukraine to extradite Saakashvili

TBILISI – In Tbilisi’s view, there is nothing to be added to the Georgian prosecutors’ request for the extradition of ex-Georgian President Mikheil Saakashavili sent to the Ukrainian side, and it remains in force.

“As for the demand for his [Saakashvili’s] extradition, it was sent a while ago. It’s been two or three years now and there have been no new demands here,” Georgian Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees Sozar Subari told reporters on Sept. 13.

The only new thing related to this case is that Ukraine has asked the question of whether the extradition request remains in force, he said.

“Naturally, this demand remains the same and the Georgian Ministry of Justice has given its confirmation accordingly,” Subari said.
