Kyiv stands ready for drastic compromises to continue the process of freeing Ukrainians being held in the areas outside the Ukrainian government’s control, Verkhovna Rada First Vice-Speaker Iryna Gerashchenko, who represents Ukraine in the Donbas Trilateral Contact Group’s humanitarian subgroup, said.

“We are ready for serious compromises to continue it [the process of freeing captives being held in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions],” she said on air of the 1+1 television channel on Dec.28.

“I will not announce any figures, and, what is more, any dates for the time being, because in Minsk we use the Ukrainian Security Service’s lists, on which there are quite more prisoners left,” Gerashchenko said, when answering a question from the anchorwoman about the possible swift release of another 30 Ukrainians.

“We see a rise in the number of people [illegally held people], primarily by more civilians [among them],” over the past few weeks, Gerashchenko said with regret.

The Ukrainian side has “certain proposals, which we stand ready to realize, only in order to have prisoners freed,” she said.
