Anton Gerashchenko, an advisor to the Ukrainian interior minister and Verkhovna Rada deputy (People’s Front), said that Ukrainian citizen Pavlo Parshov who killed former Russian State Duma deputy Denis Voronenkov was trained in Russia’s school of sabotage.

“Denis Voronenkov was killed by a Ukrainian citizen, Pavlo Oleksandrovych Parshov, born in Sevastopol in 1988, the agent of Russian special services… Before being infiltrated into Ukraine, he underwent a special training course for saboteurs in Russia at the school, which was created back in the times of the Stalinist NKVD,” Gerashchenko said on Facebook on March 24.

According to the lawmaker, Parshov was ordered to infiltrate one of the divisions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or the National Guard “posing as an ordinary soldier.”

“A strong healthy young man, Ukrainian citizen, successfully fulfilled the task of Russian special services and served in one of the units of the National Guard for a year,” Gerashchenko said adding that in August 2016, Parshov left the guard and was waiting for a signal from Moscow.

According to Gerashchenko, Parshov led an ordinary life, was a private entrepreneur. In 2011 he was put on a wanted list for economic crimes.

“Pavlo Parshov has never officially traveled abroad, but in February 2015 he crossed Ukraine’s border, having walked through one of the checkpoints on the border with Belarus,” he said.

Gerashchenko noted that investigators are checking all the circumstances of the preparation and organization of Voronenkov’s assassination, noting that investigators have already learnt a lot, including how without proper checks Parshov, who was wanted for economic crimes, was recruited to the National Guard in June 2015. The lawmaker assured that those responsible for this oversight will be held accountable. In addition, the criteria for verification for the admission to the Armed Forces, the National Guard and other security agencies of Ukraine will be reviewed, he added.
