You're reading: German Foreign Ministry: Germany will maintain its policy towards Ukraine after elections

Germany’s foreign policy towards Ukraine will not change after parliamentary elections in Germany, in particular, within the framework of the “Normandy format” and in the sphere of reform support, Andreas Peschke, Germany’s Federal Foreign Office’s Director for Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia, has said.

“Of course, we are ready to continue our work in the “Normandy format.” And if we look at what the main German politicians said, we can say with confidence that our work in the negotiation process will continue, as well as our support for Ukraine’s economy and reforms,” the diplomat said in a blitz interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

He said traditionally there is the continuity of the main vectors in German foreign policy.

“In Germany there is a certain continuity of foreign policy, even different parties have this consistency. In my opinion, this sequence of the main directions of our foreign policy will remain in many respects even after the elections. In the question of Ukraine … we are, of course, ready to continue work in the “Normandy format”,” the official stated.
