You're reading: Germany to give Ukraine 1.5 million euro for children, elderly in Donbas

Germany will give 1.5 million euro to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for a project for urgent assistance to children, mothers, the youth and the elderly who have been suffering from the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the German Embassy has said.

“After Germany has recently decided to issue one more grant worth EUR 1 million for humanitarian measures of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), additional EUR 1.5 million will be given under UNICEF’s project for emergency response in eastern conflict areas of Ukraine,” the German Embassy in Kyiv said on its website on August 28.

The funds will be allocated for assistance to babies, children and their mothers, the youth and elderly people.

“It mainly concerns an improvement in medical, psychological and social care, ensuring the provision of safe drinking water, as well as measures to provide better sanitation,” the German Embassy said.

The Embassy says that Germany continues demonstrating solidarity with the people of Ukraine and in future it will help those who are in trouble in connection with the events in Donbas.

According to the Embassy, Germany’s assistance to the population of Ukraine has amounted to more than 26 million euro in 2017 alone. And the total amount of German support under humanitarian assistance projects around the world is 1.4 billion euro.
