Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has transferred Hr 652.5 million of assistance from the European Union (EU) to the Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Economy Ministry of Ukraine to finance regional development programs and projects.
According to government resolution No. 827 dated November 16, 2016, the government empowered the ministry to implement the tasks outlined in the EU-Ukraine agreement on financing regional policy support programs in Ukraine. The government transferred UAH 652.5 million of the EU assistance from the Finance Ministry to the Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Economy Ministry.
The funds can be used to implement regional development projects, including designing of blueprints of construction projects selected at tenders, design and improve methods and procedures for calculating regions competitiveness index that meets the EU standards and regional human development index for the period until 2020, create the geo-information system of regional development, preparation and implementation of projects aimed at developing infrastructure of the merged territorial communities.
The funds could be used to improve the regional policy monitoring and assessment system that meets the tasks presented in the agreement on financial support of the EU and form the payroll for civil servants.
The commission created by the ministry headed by Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has ordered Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine Hennadiy Zubko will select the projects.
Earlier the Ukrainian government and the European Commission signed an agreement envisaging the provision of € 55 million of assistance to support regional policy. The decision to provide the first tranche of € 23 million was made in November. The tender to select the projects will be announced after the first tranche is sent to the Ukrainian national budget.
