The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine wants to toughen punishment for solid household waste treatment violations and if it is required the government is ready to support borrowing by local authorities from international financial institutions (IFIs) to solve problems with waste.

“We as the government would expand responsibility for treatment of solid household waste,” he said at a briefing during his working visit to Kherson region on August 16.

The prime minister pointed out the readiness of the Ukrainian government to press on local authorities to speed up solving waste recycling and disposal.

Groysman said that local authorities have enough funds to solve these issues. If not so, the government is ready to support borrowing from IFIs.
