You're reading: Governor: 8 miners injured in methane ignition at Pokrovske mine in Donetsk region

As a result of methane ignition at a private Pokrovske coal mine (Donetsk region), eight miners have received burns of varying severity and were hospitalized, Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky has said.

“Eight miners were injured as a result of methane ignition on the 12th southern face of block 10 of the private enterprise Pokrovske mine administration. They received burns of varying degrees and were taken to the Kramatorsk hospital,” he wrote in his Facebook page on Monday evening.

According to the governor, the emergency occurred at 16:22 on Monday, when there were 406 people at the mine. A total of 37 miners worked directly at the emergency area.

“All miners are notified of the accident and brought to the surface. The work on block 10 has been suspended until the circumstances and causes of the incident are clarified,” Zhebrivsky added.
