You're reading: Graham: FTA between Ukraine, US to signal Ukraine’s openness for business

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican Party, South Carolina) said he is in favor of concluding an agreement on a free trade area (FTA) between Ukraine and the United States in the coming years.

At a briefing following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Monday, Graham said that the United States senators support additional economic assistance for the economy of Ukraine. Graham said that his goal is to reach an agreement on the creation of a free trade area between Ukraine and the United States in the coming years. This will actually radically change the relationship between the countries as well as this will send a signal to the whole world that Ukraine is open for business.

The senator said that in order to achieve the goals of concluding an agreement on a free trade area, providing more economic assistance and more assistance in the defense sector, more needs to be done towards fighting corruption in Ukraine. Graham said that the United States values reform, but more needs to be done.

At the same time, the senator said there is broad bipartisan support for Ukraine’s freedom in the U.S. Congress. Graham said that in the United States, there are many disagreements between Republicans and Democrats, but not about Ukraine. Both parties are united about Ukraine.
