You're reading: Groysman describes break into Ukraine by Saakashvili supporters as attack on Ukrainian statehood

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has insisted that the culprits behind the break through the Polish-Ukrainian border near Shehyni checkpoint be held liable.

“The crossing of the Ukrainian border by force is a crime, and those who organized this break must be held liable,” Groysman said in a post on his Facebook page on Sept. 11 morning.

Those who dared to insult and strike the servicemen protecting Ukraine and its border should face especially severe punishment, he said.

Groysman described the break through the border near the Shehyni checkpoint as an attack on the Ukrainian statehood.

“What happened in Shehyni on Sunday was not just a breach of law. As I see it, this is the beginning of another attack by certain politicians on Ukrainian statehood. I would say nothing about Miho Saakashvili, who has his own goals and motives. I am speaking of the populist politicians who follow the principle ‘the worse things are, the better,'” Groysman said.

Now is the time to make important economic and social decisions and use the emerging signs of normalization to make the changes that have taken place in Ukraine irreversible, which is why provocations aimed to destabilize the situation are possible, he said.

“We can expect new destabilization attempts by those who are not interested in the success of Ukraine. Unfortunately, this is what we have been witnessing. Considering today’s events, I’d again like to urge deputies and politicians not to escalate the destruction and chaos. Let us pool our efforts and make sure that Ukraine succeeds. Now is the time to fight for the country, not for power,” Groysman said.
