You're reading: Groysman: Government preparing road inspection plan

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman has initiated a large-scale audit of the quality of roads, first of all, those repaired in 2017, and requires bringing contractors who poorly executed road repairs to responsibility.

According to the information and communications department of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers, at the same time the head of government insists on the need to quickly introduce a new standard of construction, developed within the framework of the “500-500-1,000” program (a peculiar plan for building 500 traffic circles, 500 raised safety islands, and 1,000 ground pedestrian crossings on the roads of Ukraine).

“We need to conduct a large-scale audit of what was done in 2017. I’m expecting an urgent inspection plan and the decision to establish control groups for road testing. All road repairs must be corrected at the expense of contractors who poorly performed their work,” Groysman said at a special meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the State Agency of Automobile Roads.

Participants in the meeting noted that this year the plan of financing the road sector was estimated at Hr 45.7 billion. According to the plan, work will be conducted at 218 sites. Almost 60 percent of the project documentation has already been prepared. In addition, an updated standard of construction was published, which should become a “desktop reference” for road services.
