You're reading: Groysman hopes goods flow between Ukraine, Georgia could reach $1 billion

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has expressed hope that goods flow between Ukraine and Georgia would grow from almost $500 million to $1 billion a year.

“We could boost our goods flow to $1 billion a year from current almost $500 million,” the prime minister wrote on his Twitter page, paying with an official visit to Georgia.

He said that Ukraine and Georgia are united in efforts to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, energy sector, tourist and transport, exchange of reforms experience.

As reported, on July 18, 2017, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili discussed cooperation in trade and economic spheres, pointing out the aspiration of the two countries to boost goods turnover between the countries to at least $1 billion in the near future.

“Additionally, cooperation in various fields, such as agriculture and various sectors of economy and business could be deepened,” the Ukrainian prime minister said at a joint briefing with his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Kvirikashvili following their meeting on Nov.27.

“We also spoke about cooperation in logistics. One of the items on the agenda of my visit to Georgia is participation in the Silk Road forum, which will be held in Tbilisi tomorrow,” Groysman said.

An agreement was reached with the Georgian side on a joint action plan to pave a single way for flows of goods and “ensure high quality logistics to offer the best service in shipments from Europe to Asia” jointly with other partners, he said.

Groysman will participate alongside Kvirikashvili in the opening of the Silk Road forum in Tbilisi on Nov. 28. During it, the Ukrainian prime minister will also take part in a thematic discussion related to the Chinese government’s One Belt One Road initiative, to which the forum is dedicated.

Up to 2 000 delegates from over 60 countries are expected to participate in the forum, which will last for two days. The forum’s objective is the creation and consolidation of the platform to discuss prospects of deepening interaction and ties in international and regional cooperation in such relevant fields as assistance to trade, development of e-commerce, digital communications, transport infrastructure, interregional energy opportunities, and investment capacities.
