It may take time until the end of November to demine areas around the burnt-out military depots near Kalynivka in Ukraine’s Vinnytsia region, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said.

“To search through 10 000 hectares, we take about two months today. The nearby territories have been examined and cleared of bombs already. The work is going to continue until the end of November,” Groysman said at a press briefing following meeting of the headquarters for the recovery from consequences of the blaze and explosions at the Kalynivka military depots days ago.

The mine clearance works may be completed a little earlier, Groysman said, adding that every centimeter in the area will be inspected.

A fire in the premises of the military depots in the Kalynivka district of the Vinnytsia region started in the evening of Sept. 26 and was followed by ammunition explosions.

Residents of Kalynivka and populated areas in the 10-km area were informed and evacuated. In total, almost 30,000 people were evacuated.

Two women were injured. They were sent to hospital.

The disaster prompted Ukrainian authorities to suspend road traffic, rail services and air flights in the area. Power supplies and gas supplies to the area were turned off.
