Ukraine’s Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry will meet in Kyiv on Nov. 12.

The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine said on Nov. 9 that the meeting will be held at the Government House in Kyiv on Nov. 12 morning.

The U.S. ezine The Hill reported on Nov. 2 that Perry will visit Ukraine and Poland, citing a press release by the U.S. Department of Energy. “Perry will meet with experts on a number of topics, including nuclear energy and cybersecurity,” the press release read.

The Hill said Perry will visit Ukraine and Poland as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to entice the two countries into pursuing alternatives to buying coal and natural gas from Russia.

In connection with the visit, the Hill published last year’s statement by Perry: “In recent years, Kyiv and much of Eastern Europe have been reliant on and beholden to Russia to keep the heat on. That changes now.”

“The United States can offer Ukraine an alternative, and today we are pleased to announce that we will,” he added.

The Energy Department also said that Perry will also visit Hungary and the Czech Republic.
