Lenna Koszarny, the co-founder and CEO of Horizon Capital, has been honored by Emerging-Europe.com as “Emerging Europe’s No. 2 Female Business Leader” this year.

Top honors went to Elena Hristova Marinova, president of Musala Soft, a software services company based in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Other honorees in the top five positions: Ivana Gažić, president of the management board of the Zagreb Stock Exchange in Croatia; Agnieszka Kłos, CEO at Provident Poland; and Daniela Pešková, a member of the board of directors responsible for retail banking at Česká Spořitelna, Czech’s leading bank.

“As Sheryl Sandberg said, leadership is the expectation that you can use your voice for good, that you can make the world a better place,” says Andrew Wrobel, Emerging Europe’s founding partner, in an announcement made on July 1. “These five women do not just make a significant and inspirational contribution to the success of their organizations, but they also continuously work to encourage other women to develop their careers. They have also made mentoring the next generation of leaders in business a significant component of their own success. The emerging Europe region needs more amazing female leaders and more young leaders who will take over in the decades to come.”

Emerging-Europe.com’s independent insight is relied upon by more than two million people and their unique networking events last year gave 1,200 business leaders a platform to discuss strategic opportunities. Due to the Covid‑19 pandemic, winners were announced digitally.

Koszarny described the award “as a complete surprise given it’s the first time any woman in Ukraine has been honored in this way by a London-based online publication.”

Horizon Capital is a leading private equity firm focused on Ukraine and the near region with over $850 million under management via four funds. She is also executive vice president of Western NIS Enterprise Fund, a $150 million U.S.-government backed fund. Koszarny also chairs the board of directors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, an organization with over 600 members. She is a board member and vice president of the Ukrainian World Congress, representing over 20 million Ukrainians worldwide. The Canadian native has lived and worked in Ukraine for more than 26 years.
