You're reading: IMF mission visit to Ukraine expected in September

The visit of the mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Ukraine is expected from Sept. 10 through Sept. 24, Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk told reporters in Kyiv on August 30.

Asked about gas prices for households, which has long been controversial between the previous Cabinet and the IMF, Honcharuk said that the government should not interfere with administrative decisions in pricing, even for energy.

“When a politician begins to intervene in the price, this leads to inefficiency, corruption and populism,” the prime minister said.

According to him, if some part of the population does not cope with the market price, the state should help. “Up to paying for the cost of this resource,” Honcharuk said.

Summing up, he said that the figures in the bills received by citizens are, of course, a problem of the government, and it will take measures so that the numbers do not increase and everyone who needs it receives state assistance, but without a return to administrative price regulation.

Before approval to the post of prime minister in the Verkhovna Rada, Honcharuk said that negotiations with the IMF mission regarding the new three or four-year cooperation program were scheduled.
