You're reading: IMF mission will soon return to Ukraine

The mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will again come to Ukraine in the coming weeks to discuss the new Extended Fund Facility program, Director of the European Department at the IMF Poul Thomsen has stated.

He said at a press conference in Washington that the IMF intended to send a mission in a couple of weeks to continue discussing the details of some of these reforms, highlighting land and anti-corruption reforms, as well as reduction of monopolism in the economy.

Asked about the IMF’s position regarding what is happening with the nationalized PrivatBank, Thomsen emphasized the critical importance of the state in making efforts to minimize the loss of taxpayers’ funds spent on resolving the situation with problem banks.

The fund representative also said it is too early to talk about the amount of a possible future program.
