You're reading: Infrastructure ministry: Ukraine, Turkey seek to lift restrictions on cargo transportation by road from 2019

The Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine has said that an agreement was reached with Turkey to sign a protocol to switch to the no-license system of cargo transportation by road.

“The parties agreed to draw up the corresponding draft protocol on introducing changes to the existing bilateral agreement by the end of October 2018, as well as make every effort to sign it in 2019,” the Ukrainian ministry said on Friday after the meeting of the Ukrainian-Turkish mixed commission on international road transport held in Ankara on October 3 and October 4.

The parties agreed that beginning in 2019 and before the entry into force of the amendments to the agreement, they will exchange additional permits, the Infrastructure Ministry said.

According to the release, the preliminary quota for 2019 will be 7,000 bilateral permits, 4,000 – transit, 10,000- transit of categories “U,” and 2,500 – to/from third countries.

The ministry also reported that for 2018, the Ukrainian side will additionally receive 1,000 bilateral permits, 1,000 for empty entry of vehicles, and 500 – to/from third countries.
